A newsletter for members of The Hideout Golf Club & Resort

EDITION 3 | February 2019

Dear property owners, members, and friends,

I wanted to take this time and opportunity to introduce myself to each and every one of you, my name is W. Kit Thomson, PGA and I recently accepted the position as General Manager for The Hideout Golf Club & Resort. For the past two years I have been the General Manager & Director of Golf at April Sound Country Club in Montgomery, Texas. April Sound is one of 229 golf properties owned and operated by ClubCorp out of Dallas, Texas. I grew up in southern Kansas, attended Kansas State University, played golf and received a degree in Horticulture with specific interest in turf grass management. Our family has lived in Texas since 1978 and we consider ourselves true native Texans.

We are excited about the opportunities that have been afforded us here at The Hideout and will be introducing new weekly specials and monthly events through a calendar of events for everyone to have something to look forward to on a regular basis. Golf is about the "PEOPLE" and creating an atmosphere of "FUN" so that each of you will invite both family and friends to The Hideout.

The golf course is exceptional, should any of you avid golfers have a suggestion as to formats or a different activity that you would like to see happen at The Hideout please bring it to our attention. Additional amenities such as Tennis, Pickleball, Corn Hole, and a Fitness Center are being discussed for your enjoyment.

We will be E-blasting, Facebooking, Instagramming information and activities to each of you on a weekly basis. So follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep informed. In closing, we are excited about the future and the success of The Hideout Golf Club & Resort. Should any of you have a question or concern please don't hesitate to drop by or give me a call at your convenience. Here's to a successful 2019 and I look forward to meeting all of our members, players, and residents of Brown County, Texas.

W. Kit Thomson, PGA

General Manager

The Hideout Golf Club & Resort

Mr. Thomson began his career in golf as a graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in Horticulture/Turf Management in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma building Indian Springs Country Club. He was the First Assistant Golf Professional at Muskogee Country Club and in 1976 received his PGA membership and became the Head Golf Professional at McAlester Country Club in McAlester, Oklahoma. After serving in that capacity for three years, he moved to Longview, Texas to build and open a new private country club called Oak Forest Country Club. In 1983 Mr. Thomson became the Central Texas Regional Sales Manager for the Arnold Palmer Golf Company and moved again in 1994 to a small North Texas town called Crandall, Texas to build a new facility called Creekview Golf Club.

Other country clubs and golf courses Mr. Thomson renovated and rebuilt include Oak Forest Country Club, 12 State of Oklahoma Tourism Department owned resort golf facilities, Raven Nest Golf Club in Huntsville, Texas for the City of Huntsville and Sam Houston State University and "The Wilderness Golf Club.' for Kemper Sports Management

Company and the City of Lake Jackson, Texas. After leaving The Wilderness Golf Club, Mr. Thomson began the challenge of rebuilding and renovating Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club (formerly known as 'The Shores Country Club’ in Rockwall, Texas) re-establishing this unique facility on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall, Texas. In the spring of 2017 Mr. Thomson left Rockwall, Texas to become the driving force in Montgomery, Texas to put ‘April Sound Country Club.' and its membership on the statewide golf map; serving in two capacities at April Sound as General Manager and more recently as the Director of Golf Operations.

The Hideout Golf Club & Resort represents a great opportunity to bring Mr. Thomson's experience and to help grow the market share and the usage of the club and resort. Mr. Thomson is very excited about the challenge at hand and looks forward to meeting the members, players and residents of Brown County, Texas.

Should you have any questions or membership issues please feel free to call W. Kit Thomson, GM/PGA at 214-500-4503, or email him at

The Atlantic salmon we use for our grilled salmon entree is shipped in from Quality Seafood out of Austin and broken down into fillets in house. The salmon is then grilled over our wood fire grill and served over a bed of curry infused basmati rice and grilled asparagus and then finished with our mango chutney that adds a nice tangy finish to the robust flavor of the wood grilled salmon.

To match Chef Brandon’s Atlantic fire grilled salmon, we chose a Pinot Grigio from Ecco Domani. It offers delicate floral and tropical fruit aromas of pineapple, passion fruit and mango that play well with the mango chutney, and blends perfectly with the curry-infused rice.

Our martini menu is still being perfected with several innovative new cocktails that highlight technique, creativity and fresh ingredients. Be sure to try the newest cocktail from our team — the Key Lime Pie “Martini”. Rum, coconut, and fresh squeezed lime juice carefully crafted into a creamy cocktail that is sure to shake those cold weather blues. Treat yourself to an adult dessert or any of your favorite craft cocktails at the Hideout Bar today!

Tournaments in Team and Individual Formats will include both 2-Day / 36 Hole and 1-Day / 18 hole events. Established USGA Handicap will be required to participate in certain formats. If you do not have an established USGA handicap The Hideout Golf Club & Resort offers that service. Please contact the Pro Shop for more details.
